Quick facts about TriMet:
- TriMet was created by the State of Oregon to serve over 1.58 million people in a 533 square-mile area across three counties in Oregon.
- By using renewable electricity for light rail trains and electric buses, and renewable diesel to fuel fixed-route buses, TriMet is expecting to reduce more than 155 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions every year—the equivalent of taking more than 15,000 cars off the road.
- Some 65% of TriMet riders say they ride to recreational destinations and more than 40% indicate they commute for work.
- TriMet’s light rail lines have helped spur more than $21.9 billion in development within walking distance of stations.
- TriMet riders can save up to $14,298 per year in transportation costs when compared to owning an operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis.
- More than 1,270 employer worksites offer transit passes as an employee benefit.
- TriMet transit-oriented development program has helped facilitate the building of 718 new residential units, 477 (66%) of which are affordable units (i.e., for residents with incomes <60% AMI) near MAX light rail stations, with another 222 affordable housing units under construction.
- TriMet’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program serves as a national model for creating opportunities for women and people of color.
- There are more than 8,000 security cameras on our transit system, on board every bus and MAX train and at many stops, stations and transit centers.
